Key Highlights: OnePlus 8T 5G Launch Event
- OnePlus has launched its latest flagship the OnePlus 8T 5G in India which is an upgraded version of the OnePlus 8 Pro. This time there is no Pro version for the OnePlus 8T.
- The company also launched a special edition OnePlus Nord which comes in Grey Ash color and a matte textured glass back. Nord Grey Ash edition comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage and is priced at 29,999 INR in India. The pricing of the special edition in Europe and the UK is 499€ and 469£respectively. OnePlus Nord Grey Ash edition will be available for purchase from October 15th through OnePlus official website and Amazon.
- OnePlus has mentioned plans to build a smartwatch a long back but the plans got shelved so that they can concentrate on the flagships. But there’s some good news for the fans who are awaiting it. During the event, they mentioned the watch and quoted that the plans can change which leads to a hint that the watch can be launched sometime soon.
- Apart from the smartphones, OnePlus launched a 10,000mAh power bank and two wireless earphones – The OnePlus Buds Z and OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z Bass Edition. OnePlus also announced Red-Cable Subscription, OnePlus TV-OS update which supports Bluetooth connectivity with headphones and few improvements, OnePlus Store App, and OnePlus Nizam Palace which will be an experience Store and Landmark in Hyderabad, India.
OnePlus 8T 5G
Design and Display
- The OnePlus 8T 5G comes with a flat display and a curved back with corning gorilla glass protection. The device weighs 188g and is 8.4mm thin.
- OnePlus mentioned that the texture on the back glass is inspired by the OnePlus One but instead of the plastic back, there will be a glass back.
- OnePlus 8T will be available in two different colors; Lunar Silver and Aqua Marine Green. The Aqua Marine Green will be a gloss back variant and the Lunar Silver will be a Matte frosted.
- Coming to the display, the OnePlus 8T 5G comes with 120Hz 6.55”(16.637cm) infinitely smooth OLED panel with a peak brightness of 1100 nits and support for HDR 10+. OnePlus mentioned that the display is a flexible one which means it’s thinner, lighter, and offers much more vivid color with a wider viewing angle. The display of the OnePlus 8T is rated A+ by Displaymate and it’s the first 120Hz flat display to achieve this rating. The OnePlus 8T also achieved a JNCD(Just Noticeable Color Difference) of 0.3 which means it has the most color accuracy than any smartphone.
Processor and Performance
- OnePlus 8T comes with OxygenOS on top of Android 11 and this is the first smartphone to implement Android 11. It’s powered by the flagship Snapdragon 865 processor with 8GB/12GB RAM and 128GB/256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The device is equipped with Dual Stereo Speakers with Dolby Atmos support.
- The heat dissipation system on the OnePlus 8T is a redesigned one with a 285% larger vapour chamber than before which leads to better temperature control.
- OnePlus added new tools in-game space for fast toggling and also partnered with Epic Games to provide 90Hz refresh rate support for Fortnite and OnePlus 8 and 8T will be the first devices to get that support.
Cameras: Front and Rear
- The device comes with a quad-camera setup with dual-LED flash at the rear and is equipped with a 48MP main camera with an F1.75 aperture. The primary camera has EIS and OIS. The secondary camera is a 16MP ultra-wide with F2.2 aperture and 123° field of view. The other two cameras include a 5MP Macro lens and a 2MP Monochrome lens.
- OnePlus has improved a few things in camera and also introduced a new Video Nightscape, Video Portraits, Super Stable Video, and Video tracking. The rear camera can record 4K@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60/240fps, 720p@480fps, and features Auto HDR.
- The front camera is a 16MP punch-hole camera with EIS support and it can record 1080p@30fps.
Battery, Network and Connectivity
- The OnePlus 8T comes with a 4500mAh non-removable split battery setup. OnePlus introduced the all new Warp Charge 65 with a re-designed 65W brick which will be provided in the box.
- OnePlus claims that the device can get charged up to 60% in 15 minutes.
- This adapter can also be used to charge other gadgets such as laptops, tablets, and Nintendo switch.
- Coming to the connectivity, there’s dual-sim support, 5G, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, and NFC.
Security and Sensors
- There is an optical In-Display fingerprint sensor for security and the device also supports face unlock.
- The sensors present onboard the smartphone are Accelerometer, Electronic, Compass, Gyroscope, Ambient Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Sensor Core, and Flicker-detect Sensor.
Pricing and Availability
- OnePlus 8T 5G is priced at 42,999 INR for the 8GB/128GB variant and 45,999 INR for the 12GB/256GB variant. It’s available in two different colors; Aqua Marine Green and Lunar Silver.
- OnePlus 8T will be available for purchase through OnePlus Store and Amazon from October 16th. For Amazon Prime Members, the sale of the smartphone starts early.
